So after a year of horror, inexistant weekends and countless hours spent staring at unfinished assignments I have finally seen the days of sunkissed skin and booze filled benders.. in other words...a parents nightmare. The only motivation to persist on with torturous HSC exams "We are going to Bali!"I said and one foot infront of another the girls and I welcomed the independent travellers life. The transition to new soil hit us like a whirlwind, not to mention instant sweat moustaches and a 110% increase in humidity from the first stride off the plane. Soon enough we settled into the Jayakarta, beds were sorted(with minimal amount of arguments)and surprisingly no one had lost their passports..as of yet.
Naturally our days gravitated towards sweating it up by the pool in hope of blending in with the locals skin tone. Soon after heading to sunset drinks on the beach from 4pm(which soon became the daily tradition).Although the grog was dirt cheap you could easily define the stinger in our group aka me drinking Bintangs(which taste worse then a stray dogs piss) over apple Smirnoffs(heaven in a glass bottle) purely because they were $2 less...which would later go towards everyone's favourite Bali trait. And what's that you ask? Two for one cocktails of course!
Each night out was completely different(from the patches I remember) but the one thing that remained consistent each night were the young Indos dancing more unco than myself and attempting to grind on any Aussie in eye sight. From missing friends to raunchy one night stands this trip had it all! So after 1.5 weeks of losing 2/3 of our brain cells and putting on numerous calories we headed to Nusa Lembongan island for salvation and it did just that. The panoramic views that Coconuts villas offered of the transparent sparkling ocean and reef breaks screaming to be surfed rid us of our hangovers instantly. This island was bursting with a sense of adventure and so was I. Without doubt motorbikes were hired and a number of near stacks were had as we blitzed around with curiosity leading the way. A much needed retreat definitely reenergised us to live up our last few nights
Here's my do's and dont's for a successful schoolies:
1.If your accommodation doesn't include breakfast, nine times out of ten you can sneak in as the staff cant keep up with the amount of testy teens hanging about in schoolies week. also don't sleep in too long cause most breakfasts finish at 10am.
2. Keep busy. This can help avoid arguments within your group with all the time spent together. I recommend a day trip to Padang beach and Single Fin,Uluwatu for sunset drinks, La La Laguna Beach Club,Canggu for some gypsy vibes and on Nusa Lembongan snorkelling is a must with heaps of manta rays and turtles to be spotted and The Beach Club is THE place to dine(check pictures below).
3. In all costs, if you go to Skygarden don't get the complimentary long island ice tea, chose another drink cause a few of us got spiked from it. Just a heads up! And ALWAYS be conscious of your bag, there are many pick pocketers who hang around the clubs and target those who are mortal.
Now you have heard how my trip went, I want to hear about yours! Goodluck-Lana
