I'm learning
1)Sunflowers are the way to my heart. Nothing feels more like wanderlust than driving through the European countryside and seeing rows upon rows of these beauties. So while others are aspiring to be a successful genius,I'm aspiring to be a sunflower...Bold, bright and beautiful.
2)Everyone and everything is out to get you. Even miles from home, negativity can drown you,and I nearly went under. From employers trying to raught you of your hard worked money to those closest to you at home letting you down. It is testing and it's sink or swim. A night in a bad hostel, scary roommates, low cash and feeling lonely...negativity can't be escaped but you can rise higher.
3) intellectual conversations are everything.
In one of my previous blog I wrote 5 simple steps to make friends while living the nomad life. I have now realised that speaking about what scares you and gaining advice off like minded travellers makes long term travel much easier. Ask about family, relationships, ask about homesickness and regrets(if any). Ask what they had to sacrifice...and if it was worth it. What place felt most like home and once in a life time experiences and stories.
4) Be your own support. Learn to cook, learn a new language, discover your passions and how to spice up your life. At the end of the day, it's all down to you.(calling mum every day helps too)
5)You can have more trust in someone you have known for hours, than someone you have known for years. The extent of kindness I have received from those all over Europe is incredible and absolutely priceless. Sometimes all it takes is a simple bonjour, hola, hallo, ciao, ola or maybe just a hey.
6) Adventure is never lost with age unless you let it.
As a kid curiosity led me around town. I got my drivers licence and it went beyond. Up and down the coast blasting out spotifies road trip singalong playlist. Now it has lead me into economy class on the cheapest flights, the window seat of trains and sprawled out on busses. Meeting those who got told they were too old for the "gappie hostel scene" or on the other side of the spectrum a little younger than the norm, only just passing the required 18 minimum age for hostels(like myself).
7) Don't be afraid to make a tit of yourself. Be an absolute idiot. And enjoy it. After all your not going to be remembered for being your average Joe. Within my first week of traveling with Busabout rumour soon spread that I was the d**khead who got on the bus to Switzerland rather than my intended Austria pit stop. The one whose known for falling down stairs(and legs looking like bruised apples to prove it),And an addiction to twirling people round on a night out. Completely and utterly care free!
